Illness If your child is sick, please keep him/her home from school until no longer contagious. Students who are unable to participate will be sent home. Make-up work will be posted on Google Classroom. It is essential to stay caught up in math. HomeworkLiteracy
Students are expected to read for 20 minutes per night, Monday-Friday. Please record reading minutes on the Google Doc, which can be found here, on Smore updates, and on Google Classroom. If it helps, please study spelling words at home, too. Math
Other Students are expected to keep up on Lexia and i-Ready in class. They will only have to work on it at home if they are absent or if they do not use their time in class wisely. They are required to reach their goal on Lexia (determined by the program) and pass 2-3 lessons on i-Ready each week. 2-3 lessons should take about 45 minutes. CurriculumWe use Wonders for literacy and Ready Math for math. Students will also receive Spanish, social studies, and science instruction.
FoldersStudents will have a Take-Home Folder. They are expected to bring it to school every day and take it home every day. It will contain homework, unfinished classwork, permission slips, and flyers.
PlannersStudents will each have a planner. They are expected to bring it to school every day and take it home every day. It will have usernames and passwords, calendars, reference helper sheets, data sheets, and planning sheets. They will write one of our learning goals for literacy and math and circle how many rules they followed. They will write their spelling words in their planners and I will write notes if they have an especially amazing or difficult day. Please go through the planner together every evening and make sure it goes straight back into the backpack.

FoodLunch
Parents are responsible for providing lunch, either by ordering a school lunch or sending a lunch every day. If your child arrives at school without arrangements for lunch, you will be contacted to make arrangements. Allergies Please notify me if your child has any allergies, dietary restrictions, or intolerances. I will make sure your child has only safe snacks if we ever have any. Gold Medal School We are a Gold Medal School, which means we have a commitment to health and nutrition. Due to this, we will have only 2 treat days per school year (Halloween and Valentine's Day). Treats for birthdays are not allowed. |
RulesWe will follow Happy Class rules:
Nice Words Nice Hands Follow Directions Calm Body Finish Work |
RecessStudents will go outside to recess twice per day. Please make sure to dress your child for the weather. Coats and boots are important in the winter. Please label all of your child's jackets and coats so we can return them if they get lost.

Behavior Management
We will have many positive behavior management systems in place. The first important part of behavior management is to set a routine, display a visual schedule, and to let the students know what is going to happen throughout the day. We will use abrupt social interactions as teaching moments rather than discipline. I will allow students to explain their thoughts and behavior and teach them why some words and actions are considered acceptable, while others are unacceptable. I have learned to ask an important question to students who are misbehaving: “Are you being funny, friendly, or mean?” This allows students to think about why they treated another person how they did and to explain their reasoning before I tell them how it makes others feel.
Class Economy: Our class is going to run on a class economy. Students can earn "money" in class and they may spend it on rewards, supplies, and consequences.
Consequences: Students will receive positive and negative consequences that match their behaviors. If students make good choices, they will earn rewards, such as class economy money, parties, extra recess, and Fun Friday time. When students make poor choices, a teacher will use a timer to record the amount of time that student is making poor choices. This is the amount of time they will owe from something fun, such as recess, the class store, or parties.
